ATTN: EDITORS / PHOTO DESK / ASSIGNMENT DESK PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES – FRIDAY MAY 25 – TWO LOCATIONS On Friday, December 25, there will be Two (2) media photo opportunities as aircraft participating in the Wings & Wheels Heritage Festival arrive in Toronto: 7:30 am – Toronto Harbour – “Olivia” a 1956 de Havilland Beaver seaplane will complete a 51-year homecoming journey when it lands in Toronto Harbour at the end of a cross-Canada flight from Sidney, BC. Cameramen and Photographers will be able to take photos of the Beaver landings & taking off in Toronto harbour with the Toronto skyline in the background. This Beaver departed Toronto in 1956 when it was delivered to the US Army. It returns 51 years later as a completely remanufactured aircraft back in the air for the first time in 30 years after being rescued from the Arizona desert in 2005. (NOTE, the aircraft must depart the harbour for Downsview Airport no later than 8:30 am) Media will board Toronto Police Marine Services boat at Toronto City Centre Airport at 7:30 am Friday morning at STOLPort Hangar, east end of airport (or earlier at Queen’s Quay base). Afternoon – approx 3:00 pm – Downsview Airport – A CF-18 jet fighter will fly into Downsview Airport from CFB Bagotville to participate in the Wings & Wheels Heritage Festival this weekend. This is the first time a CF-18 has operated from Downsview since the air force closed in 1996. The pilot of the fighter began his career as a bush pilot flying Beaver aircraft over northern Canada. This weekend’s Festival is a salute to the 60th anniversary of the Beaver – Canada’s most famous aircraft design.
