This exciting event takes place the weekend of May 26 & 27, 2007, and celebrates the 60th anniversary of
the inaugural flight of de Havilland's DHC-2 Beaver bush plane.
The Beaver bush plane was designed as a reliable, single-engine metal monoplane, to operate on wheels,
skis and floats to access rugged and remote areas. Some 1692 of these sturdy, simple aircraft were built
between 1947 and 1967 by de Havilland Canada at Downsview Airport. It has become one of the world’s most
enduring commercial aircraft designs. It is also a symbol of Canada’s north, since it contributed substantially
to the opening the vast northern regions for mineral and small community developments. Visitors at this year’s
event will see a variety of aircraft flying and on display as well as a wide variety of antique and modern classic cars,
trucks and motorcycles. There will be model aircraft on display and indoor/outdoor
flying demonstrations. The 45,000 sq ft Hangar, adjacent to the Museum, will be the
‘Grand Display Hall’ for this event. Exhibitors will set up their booths and major display items throughout this hall along with aircraft and vehicles old and new. This 2007 event
has evolved and been expanded substantially to make it a better attraction for the public and sponsors/exhibitors.
As a two day event it is expected to bring over 10,000 attendees with interest and curiosity to join in and enjoy
the celebrations.
